The Oriental Institute of Technology Library was established in 1969. Apart from the Main Library at the third floor in Yuan Ze Building, the library also includes the Periodical Room at the third floor in Cheng Chin Building. The Main Library contains Chinese and foreign book stacks, a circulation desk, an electronic learning area, a newspaper reading area, a media center equipped with audio-visual facilities as well as open stacks for references, bound journals and Chinese and foreign periodicals. The library collection presently includes more than 150,000 volumes of books, 800 periodical titles, 7,000 electronic periodical titles, 70 electronic databases and 10,000 units of non-book materials including CD ROMs, audiocassettes and videos etc. All the library collection is put on display for use.

The center aims at providing a thorough network and information teaching and research  environment, developing and maintaining the computerization of administration, managing and organizing the campus network, and offering consultation to all users at OIT. In order to provide the users the fastest and safest campus network, we adopt the Gigabyte optic fiber system as the campus network backbone and connect to the TANET in the same way. In Software service, we not only signs the Corporate Contract with Microsoft but also signs many useful application software with other company such as antivirus of Trend Micro corp. These strategies offer a safe environment and ensure the proper copyright usage of these softwares.
In hardware aspect, in order to provide a comfortable and spacious environment for usage and learning the computers, our center is designed with innovating concepts and the computer facilities are designed with the ergonomics approach. We have established three specialized computer classrooms that have the tendency to accommodate with the future development of computer network: one programming room and two networking rooms. The computer center provides totally more than 130 multimedia computers and LCD monitors for students. |
